Antelope Valley College has commitments from six area volleyball players to join the team in the Fall.
Katrina Valencia, Shaunna Garcia, Alicia Starks, Julia Harrison, Rachel Holmes, and Brianna Kobacks all are set to
join the Marauders next season.
"We're excited," said AVC coach Jane Cwayna, who hopes to build on last season's 12-6 overall record. "We've got a good group coming in. Most of them have played club."
Valencia, of Desert Christian, and Garcia, of Boron, shared co-most valuable player honors in the Desert Mountain League last season.
Valencia was all-league for four years and is expected to play setter for AVC. Garcia fits in at outside hitter.
"We think Shaunna will be an impact player for us," Cwayna said. "She's very aggressive."
Harrison, from Desert High School, was all-High Desert League last season.
Holmes was captain of her team at Littlerock.
Kobacks, of Highland, earned all-Golden League honors. Starks, of Lucerne Valley, should see action at middle blocker.

LANCASTER
Girls and boys from throughout the Antelope Valley recently participated in 24th Annual Summer Volleyball Camp hosted by the Antelope Valley College volleyball team.
More than 90 kids took the opportunity to work on their serving, attacking, setting, passing, hitting and blocking skills.
Jane Cwayna, AVC women's volleyball coach, started the camp 24 years ago to help get players in the area to improve their skills.
"The skill level was not very high, so we started to teach the skills and basic fundamentals," Cwayna said.
Cwayna encourages her volleyball team to participate in the camp.
"We work with other coaches and have them teach us different techniques and skills, which helps us improve," said AVC volleyball player Brianna Koback.
Coaches explain to the participants what colleges and high schools are looking for in players, so participants will be able to improve their volleyball careers.
"They tell us what we need to do to get scholarships so we can play in college," said camper Shanna Wright.
College coaches and athletic trainers lead the weeklong classes. Such coaches included Greg Gibbons, assistant for the women's team at Santa Barbara, Turhan Douglas, USC men's volleyball coach, Rick McLaughlin, head women's coach at Golden West College, Tom Pestolesi, former women's volleyball coach at Irvine Valley College and Ken Stanley who has won three men's state championships at Los Angeles Pierce College.
"You get to work with a lot of different people and well known coaches," Koback said.
The camp also gives exposure to local players to get recruited to colleges.
"I've watched a lot of these kids grow up. They come back year after year," Cwayna said
Cwayna plans on retiring after two more volleyball seasons from AVC, leaving next summer the possibility of being the last Summer Volleyball Camp.
"I hope the person following me continues what I started," Cwayna said.
