Local volleyball stars at Junior OlympicsThis story appeared in the Antelope Valley Press on Tuesday, July 10, 2007.Valley Press Quartz Hill volleyball player's Evan Mottram, Ryan Kachold and Hunter Horn are in Atlanta, Georgia competing in the Junior Olympics volleyball tournament. Mottram and Kachold are playing on the Pacific Palisades club team and are still in contention in the gold bracket after finishing the first two days with a 5-2 record. "It's intense, there are a lot of good teams and players," Kachold said. "But now we have a pretty good shot at making the championship." Horn is playing with the Santa Monica 16-and-under team, who has been eliminated from the gold championship bracket. Tanner Nua, from Palmdale, is also at the tournament playing with the Santa Monica 17-U team, who are also still in the gold bracket. All three teams were open qualifiers in the California division. Mottram, Kachold and Nua were selections for the all-Valley Press Volleyball team this season. |
