Lancaster High School senior Ashley Robinson has been offered a scholarship to play volleyball at Division I Norfolk State University (Va.) of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Robinson said she gave Spartans coach Jennifer Fry a verbal commitment in late January and is just waiting to sign a National Letter of Intent next month.

"I've been waiting to play (college volleyball) forever," Robinson said. "I'm just so excited I got a scholarship offer right out of high school."

She was planning on going to Antelope Valley College for two years, hoping to get more attention there. But when club season began, coaches at the Antelope Valley Volleyball Club targeted Norfolk State as a possible suitor for her.

A 6-foot-1 middle blocker, Robinson sent tape to Fry and went on a recruiting visit in February.

"It's a beautiful campus," she said. "I'm just happy it's Div. I, the location doesn't really matter to me. I didn't have a preference, I'm just excited."

Robinson's teammate Alectra Edison also plans on playing college volleyball. Edison will attend Division III Widener University in Chester, Penn.
