QUARTZ HILL - In a matchup featuring a Golden League volleyball powerhouse versus a league rival, the girls of Quartz Hill made sure their prowess was felt early on Tuesday in front of a home crowd.

The Rebels made away quick and easy with the Highland Bulldogs in a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) to stay undefeated in league.

Power was exactly what the Rebels (9-1, 7-0) were from the get go, as server Michelle Carroll put her team out front right away with an ace. They would never look back.

"I was really nervous because Highland has always been a really big rival to Quartz Hill," Kahli Remy said about the team's feeling heading into the match. "We hung out as a team before the game and just mentally prepared ourselves."

The Bulldogs (3-6, 2-3) showed signs of fight, tying game one, 2-2, but the Rebels would have nothing of it, taking control of the game and going on a 7-0 run.

Highland's Rachel Cole was the thorn in the Rebels clean sweep, as every time they were about to pull away she would rally the Bulldogs to stay within striking distance.

Her strong, firm serve proved to be a problem for the Rebel return effort, and her tall frame combined with her long arms were regular walls to their attempted kills.

"They came ready to win and I think we were a little intimidated because they (Quartz Hill) were 6-0," Cole said. "We came in scared but I guess they wanted it more."

The second game started out in similar fashion with the Rebels on top and their woman in the middle, Kahlia Burnley, dominating with blocks and kills once again. The Bulldogs spent the whole night trying to hit over the outstretched Burnley, regularly coming up short.

The Bulldogs would only lead once on the night in game two, thriving off the serving of Cole. However, the lead was short lived thing of the past, as the Rebels came right back and took the lead.

In the final game, Highland made a push for a win and a comeback, but the Rebels would regroup and put their opponent away to stay perfect.

"It was a good consistent game tonight," Rebels' coach Larry Vocke said. "You can't ever go into a game thinking they (the opponent) are going to lay down for you. You just have to play your game and win."

The Rebels will face Palmdale on the road Thursday with hopes of keeping an unblemished league record.
