The Quartz Hill High School girls volleyball team will host top-ranked Oaks Christian tonight at 7 in the Southern Section Division III-AA quarterfinals. It's the third consecutive home game for the Rebels (19-1), who are the No. 8 seed.
The Lions (23-3) won eight of their nine Tri-Valley League matches this fall and split with third-seeded Oak Park, which plays California of Whittier in one of three other quarterfinals tonight. Three of the four Tri-Valley League playoff schools advanced to the quarterfinals.
Oaks Christian eliminated Quartz Hill from the playoffs last year in the second round. The Rebels won the first game but then lost three straight.
"That's our goal - beat Oaks Christian," senior Kahli Remy said after Thursday night's four-game win over Victor Valley.
The winner plays La Reina (third place in Tri-Valley League this year) or Cypress (Empire League champ) Tuesday in the semifinals.
Quartz Hill is coming off a relatively difficult four-game win over the Jackrabbits in the second round. Relative because the Rebels haven't lost a match since September and were taken to a fourth game for just the fifth time all season. Victor Valley was just a point away - at 24-22 in the fourth game - from sending the match to five games. Quartz Hill played just one five-game match all fall, beating Hart in the season-opener.
The Lions beat Beverly Hill in the second round and have swept both of their playoff matches.
