Antelope Valley Girl's
Quartz Hill Grad Murders Pomona-Pitzer
24 Kills for Summer Plante-Newman at CLU
AV Hub - Sept. 29, 2007

California Lutheran University Women's Volleyball season record
stands at 8-3 with a tough game scheduled for today, Sept. 29,
against a very capable Redlands (9-8) squad at Redlands.
The Thousand Oaks team showcases the talents of former
Quartz Hill HS and AVVC club standout hitter - Summer Plante-
Newman. Plante-Newman looks even more athletic these days.
She hits the ball with shocking accuracy from the CLU back row
and has gained speed and power.
Physically small, Plante-Newman is a force to deal with on the
volleyball court and is largely responsible for CLU's winning record.
She delivered 24 kills in their last game against Pomona-Pitzer,
18 against Whittier and 22 at Claremont Mudd. Not bad for a 5'-8"
outside hitter from the Antelope Valley.

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The California Lutheran University volleyball team won the final two games of Friday night’s road contest against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to remain undefeated in SCIAC play. After dropping games two and three 31-33, the Regals rallied from a 20-24 game four deficit to win 30-27 and take game five, 15-11.
Cal Lutheran dropped a conference game for the first time this season after sweeping its first three SCIAC contests, but Allison Kerr and Summer Plante-Newman’s combined 40 kills held off the Sagehens. CLU setter Lindsey Benson notched a season-best 51 kills and added 11 digs in Friday’s victory.
Pomona-Pitzer halted the Cal Lutheran offensive attack with 102 digs, led by its libero Ruchi Patel with 36. Three other Sagehens recorded double-digit digs including Emily Bockmon who added 11 kills and Erin Saliba who dished out 31 assists.
Cal Lutheran (8-3, 4-0 SCIAC) will play its second SCIAC road contest in two days against the University of Redlands tomorrow, September 29 at 6 pm.
