Summer Plante-Newman Won't Be Denied

Nor will the Quartz Hill High School graduate won't allow her Cal Lutheran
University girls volleyball team be denied again.

Last year, the Regals, after an 18-win season, did not receive a bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The shutout did little to affect Plante-Newman's on-court efforts this year, though.

Plante-Newman was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week on

Sept. 19, in large part to the senior's performance in the Cal-Lu-fornia Invite last weekend.

With 44 kills, seven aces and 32 digs, Plante-Newman helped the Regals sweep all four of their matches without

losing a set. Plante-Newman scored 10-or-more kills in three-of-four-matches.

As a junior, Plante-Newman led the team in kills (414), kill per game (4.99), service aces (51) and was second in digs (321).
