This story appeared in the Antelope Valley Press on Saturday, October 27, 2007.
College of the Desert 3, Antelope Valley College 0
DESERT ญญ- Antelope Valley College suffered an exhausting loss to the Roadrunners in a tough three-game brawl (30-24, 30-27, 30-17).
Katrina Valencia stayed in the fight, racking up eight kills and two aces, but College of the Desert narrowly won the first two games, and although Shaunna Garcia managed to tally up 12 kills and 20 digs, the Marauders could not maintain their explosiveness throughout the third game of the close match.
"We played well first two games and gave them a battle," said Marauders coach Jane Cwayna. "Then we just ran out of steam in the final game."
Paraclete 3, Calvary Chapel/D 0
LANCASTER - Paraclete beautifully lit up the scoreboard 25-17, 25-8, 25-20, outshining its competition in a demanding victory over Downey Calvary Chapel.
CJ Millar was phenomenal throughout the match, throwing down nine kills, and at one point in the game, she scored 16 consecutive points, ten of which were aces.
Teammate Katie Rodrigues also had a brilliant night, slamming six kills at her opponents to keep the Spirits on top in the entire match.
Paraclete coach Margaret Neill was surely satisfied with their performance, stating that the girls had "...been struggling with maintaining focus, but obviously overcame that tonight."
The Spirits are now 6-2 in league, with this star-lit win easily securing them a spot in the playoffs.
Desert Christian 3, Mammoth 1
LANCASTER - Paige Hobson led the Knights to a 25-11, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14 win with 14 kills, four blocks and two aces.
Bri Bloemendaal added 14 kills, Kellie Keefauver tallied six kills and five blocks, and Chandra Sheppard tossed up a season-high 14 aces.
"We played as a team today," Knight's coach Sue Poulter said. "In the second game our girls were just not passing the ball, but they rebounded well."
Desert Christian will play Boron at home on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
