AVC Defeats Glendale in Opener 9/01/06

GLENDALE - The Antelope Valley College Women's Volleyball Team under                            

veteran coach Jane Cwayna defeated Glendale 30-24, 26-30, 30-23, 30-21 in

their season opener on Friday Sept. 1st.                                                                          

 

Sophomore Kristy Nua (Littlerock HS) had 15 kills and 17 assists - while                    

Freshman Katrina Valencia, Desert Mountain League girls volleyball Most                 

Valuable Player at Desert Christian HS, had 9 kills, 24 assists and 6 aces.                               

Sophomore Rachel Holmes had 24 digs for the Marauders.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Sept. 6th  AVC plays at Pasadena on Wednesday at 5 p.m.                                                              

Their home opener will be on Sept. 13 against Imperial Valley at 5 p.m.

Volleyball                                                                                           

The volleyball team became the first Marauders team this fall to get a win when they defeated Glendale College, 3-1, on Friday.

Kristy Nua had 13 kills and Katrina Valencia picked up six aces in her first match for the Marauders.

The Marauders dropped only the second game with final scores of 30-24, 26-30, 30-23, and 30-21.

The win gives the Marauders a 1-0 record. They will attempt to remain undefeated when they face Pasadena City College on Wednesday in Pasadena before heading to Reedley for a tournament Friday and Saturday. AVC makes its home debut on Sept. 13 against Imperial Valley.

Last year's squad finished 12-6 overall and 8-4 in conference play, a record that coach Jane Cwayna and her squad will attempt to improve upon in her 25th year in charge.
