About the Editor:
Michael W. Neely, B.A. (1971), B.S.N.(1984), M.A.(1979), has been an elementary/middle-school teacher in the Antelope Valley since 1988. He is also a Registered Nurse specializing in the Emergency and Critical Care areas beginning in 1984. He contributes a significant amount of time to both public and private charitable and non-profit activities.
Mr. Neely has attended the University of Redlands, CA, the University of California at Riverside, Cerro Coso Community College, Ridgecrest, CA, California State College, Bakersfield, California State University, Bakersfield, and Antelope Valley Community College in Lancaster, CA.
Mr. Neely has been a nurse’s aide (1968), an Emergency Medical Technician (1976), and has worked in public, private, and military hospitals since 1968. Mr. Neely has worked at San Bernardino County Hospital (CA)(1968), Bakersfield San Joaquin Hospital (CA)(1983), Bakersfield Memorial Hospital(1982), Kern Medical Center (student)(1982) , Bakersfield Mercy Hospital(1981) , Irwin Army Hospital (KS)(1984), Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center (CO)(1985), Palmdale Hospital Medical Center (1987), and Lancaster Community Hospital (1988).
Mr. Neely has worked as a private security guard in armed and unarmed assignments (1968 to 1983), as a security associate with Sears for two years (1981-82), and as a security staff member at Bakersfield Mercy Hospital (1981).
Mr. Neely holds a K-9 teaching credential (1973 for life) and an administrative services credential (1977). His experiences include: assistant track coach at the University of California at Riverside (1972), assistant track coach at Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest (CA) (1974-76). He helped establish the Black Studies Department at U.C. Riverside.(1971-72).
Mr. Neely speaks Spanish and has studied Chinese (two years) and Greek (Three years). He is a Vietnam veteran with a record of non-commissioned and commissioned military service spanning 34 years (1966-2000) in the U.S. Army, California Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Neely’s military experiences include: Artillery (Division level Survey, Intelligence/S-2, Operations/S-3), Infantry (11B, RTO, Heavy Weapons 11C, FDC, Dragon AT missile instructor, M14-SS, M-16-expert, .45 ACP-expert, and the Army Nurse Corp (ER, SICU). He completed the U.S. Army Critical Care Course and is now a retired reservist with the rank of Captain.
