Art Related Activities

Introduction

Several Art related activities are immediately available when beginning a student authoring project. In the Pondera Project, the students were initially asked to produce:

1.  Pictures of the main characters based on descriptions and profiles produced by students in the class.

2.  A picture of the Kilda Street Zoo (unnamed at the time) based on student descriptions of what a small town zoo might look like.

3.  Pictures of zoo animals based on a list of animals chosen during a class activity to name zoo animals appropriate for a small zoo in a town like Pondera.

4.  Pictures of new characters as they are introduced based on their descriptions - or with their decriptions in the text based on the art work produced.

Summary

The possibilities are limited only by the imaginations of the students and teacher. Every visual aspect of the student authored text can be used to produce:

a.  Pen, pencil, colored markers, or crayon based pictures

b.  Collages

c.  Images captures from computer clip art or pictures on the internet

4.  Dioramas

5.  Models (the Kilda Street Zoo)

6.  Architectural Drawings and 3D renderings of buildings

7.  Maps

8.  Ceramic, clay, Playdough, papier-mâché figures.

9.  Computer graphic art renderings of characters, locations, events
