D & J Basketball Academy Summer Camps

Basketball camps getting ready to go

D & J Basketball Academy will host two summer basketball camps for boys and girls between the ages of 5-14.

The first session is to run July 17 through July 20 and the second to run from July 31 to August 3. Both camps will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $125.

The camp will stress fun and rigorous drill work. Ball handling, dribbling, passing, pivoting, shooting, defense and rebounding will be broken down for each participant. Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Mike Penberthy will make a guest appearance.

Soccer

Palmdale AYSO will be holding registration for the fall season for ages 4½-18 on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Pelona Vista soccer fields.

Cost is $95, which covers uniforms, trophy, picture package and yearbook. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Track

The Lancaster Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will be hosting their 58th Annual Youth Olympics Track Meet on May 13 at Quartz Hill High School. Gates will open at 7:30 a.m. with the events beginning at 9 a.m. The event is open for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. There is no charge for participants or spectators.

Volleyball

Antelope Valley College will be holding its 24th annual summer volleyball camp from July 10-13.

The camp is for boys and girls and will consist of two sessions. The first session for those in fifth through eighth grade will run 8-11:30 a.m. with a cost of $125.

The second session for those in ninth grade through college will run 1-6 p.m. with a cost of $150.

College and club coaches will assist participants in serving, attacking, setting, passing, hitting and blocking.

Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Youth Football

Lancaster Jets Youth Football will be holding mini-camps to help prepare for the up-coming season. The camps will run May 21, June 11 and July 9 from 2-4 p.m.

All camps will be held at Tierra Bonita City Park in Lancaster.
